Another vote for Screenflow here. Even if you don’t use it to capture a screen movie, Screenflow is surprisingly useful for video editing and is quite good for animated slideshows if you have a series of image files that you’ve created elsewhere. Drop a voiceover track on top and you’re all set.
Easy way to make nice looking “explainer” videos?
Is there any software out there that makes making quick, cute-ish explainer videos, kinda like what Common Craft does, easy? I don’t care so much about the particular style (CC obviously puts a huge amount of effort into them) as a flexible platform that will make something nice looking.
I see them popping up all over the web, but my last forays into web video make me hesitate to go back unless there’s someone out there making it dead simple to do something that looks good.

You could use screen capture software, like Screenflow, to do it.

What about iMovie? I've found it very easy to use for very basic stuff, can use photos as well as video. Or Windows Movie Maker, if that's your flavor. Combined with just about any screencasting software (I use Jing ) you can accomplish a lot pretty easily.

If you want something that is going to be specific, targeted and effective I'd hire a professional.

Yes, but with the ability to bring in outside pictures or diagrams.
Are you talking about doing screencasts? Or something else?
