Playing around with the iPad: Have you seen anything exciting?
Just got my iPad – held off til my wife could buy me one for my birthday. Thanks, dear! Anyway, I’m looking forward to playing with it. If you’ve spent some time with one, what apps got you excited? Perhaps interesting interfaces, utility, interaction design, functionality, storytelling, content, presentation, datacentricity, value to you as a citizen or consumer or resident of a neighborhood?

My time using the iPad is dominated by Safari, Instapaper and Reeder (an awesome RSS app). My habits are mostly the result of my using the iPad as a complement to my MBP, so that's why probably I favor reading, sharing and browsing.
Strangely enough, I've hardly used individual news apps so far, but I think that's mostly due to their infancy and because I really haven't been drawn or hooked. The Guardian's Eyewitness photo app is great and NPR's app would be close to perfect if it played in the background.
One thing I don't understand is why so many news apps use columns or don't make better use of the screen for reading. I also think some apps generally underrated the importance of simplicity.
On the development and design side of things, a list of apps from a buddy of mine:

Have you tried ProPublica's app? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/propublica/id355298887?mt=8
